Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1864 when slaves in Galveston Texas learned they were free. This is the 22nd year Carlisle will have a celebration marking Juneteenth. The celebration will be coordinated by Hope Station, a neighborhood organization that tries to improve health, safety and quality of life.
Hope Station is located in Memorial Park Carlisle Pa. Juneteenth is an all day extravaganza commemorating the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation, and the end of Black enslavement. Each Year, Hope Station brings the local community together to acknowledge the contributions of outstanding individuals in the community service sector and celebrate this date’s historical significance by providing local residents opportunities to participate in various events.
“On Juneteenth we come together young and old to listen, to learn and to re-fresh the drive to achieve. It is a day where we all take one step closer together to better utilize the energy wasted on racism. Juneteenth is a day that we pray for peace and liberty for all.”
