YWCA Carlisle’s Girl Power Program Budget-friendly Holiday Sale
YWCA Carlisle, 301 G St.

Browse unique holiday gift ideas available for purchase with prices ranging from $2 to $10. Items include snowman soup mugs, bracelets, peppermint scrubs and cookie mixes. Gifts will be available for purchase through Dec. 23. Proceeds from the holiday sale will benefit the girl’s program at Lamberton Middle School, Wilson Middle School and Carlisle High School.The Girl Power program is a leadership development program focused on the empowerment of adolescent girls in middle and high schools.

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY will start on Saturday, November 29th, at all downtown stores, restaurants and entertainment facilities.  Sponsored by American Express and implemented in Carlisle by the Downtown Carlisle Association and Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce, this national marketing campaign encourages shoppers to Shop Local, when looking for their holiday gifts.

Friday, December 5th

Santa Arrives & Christmas Tree Lighting
Santa will arrive on Friday, December 5th at 6 pm to formally bring the Christmas shopping season to Carlisle.  Arriving in a secret “sleigh” Santa will first be joined by members of Borough Council, DCA representatives, and multitudes of children and their parents to see the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree.   Santa will then be on hand from 6 pm to 8 pm for free pictures sponsored by Carlisle Regional Medical Center and Revelation Photography.  Pictures can be downloaded or a print made and sent to the family with a commemorative downtown Carlisle Christmas card.  Santa will be on-site next to the Old Courthouse on Friday, December 5th from 6 pm – 8 pm, for free pictures from Revelation Photography.

Miss Ruth’s Time Bomb invites you to step-right-up to The Market of Curiosities, an odd market for everyone! On December 6, 2014, from 12:00 – 6:00 enjoy a three-ring show of shopping, beer tasting, and live music. Doughnuts with Santa
Enjoy Saturday morning doughnuts, coffee and juice with Santa at the Bosler Library from 9 am – 11 am on Saturday, December 6th.  Enter in the back of the library to the Community Room where Santa will be on hand to discuss wish lists for all.  Sponsored by Entenmann’s and Carlisle Regional Medical Center, this hometown activity will be something to be remembered for years to come.

Storytelling with Mrs. Claus

The Whistlestop Bookshop will be the location on Saturday, December 6th at 1 pm for Storytelling with Mrs. Claus.  Everyone can gather around for storybook time with some holiday classics including “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”


Shots with Santa
Explore West Pomfret Street and SHOP THE BLOCK, for the annual Shots with Santa.  Each store will have a creative Santa for you to have your picture taken, along with a holiday beverage.  Locations to be announced.

Advent Walking Tour

Visit four of Carlisle’s beautiful downtown churches.  Enjoy each church’s unique history and traditions of Advent and Christmas. View architecture, interiors, and stained glass. The Dickinson Collegium, the college’s chamber choir under the direction of Professor of Music Blake Wilson, will join with faculty organist Brian Rotz to present a concert of seasonal choral music by J.S. Elizabeth von Trapp, grand-daughter of Baron and Maria von Trapp of The Sound of Music, will ring in the holiday with The Sound of Christmas with the Carolian Brass at t he Carlisle Theater.  Starting at 7:30 pm, tickets are on sale for $30, $35, $40.

Carriage rides will cost $5 for Adults, $3 Children Ages 6 -12, children 5 and under are free.  Private carriage rides will cost $25.00; reservations are not required, but recommended. Rides will load and unload next to the Old Courthouse. Bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Project SHARE and receive $1 discount off the purchase of your ticket.
