Last Thursday a few representatives from the West Side Neighbors came to the Parks and Recreation Board meeting to support the park project. We submitted the extensive plan to them in advance so they were prepared with additional questions and we were able to address most of their concerns. We also gave a presentation, expanding on some of the concepts with visual examples (natural playscapes, natural amphitheater…).
The board approved our project and the name change from Tot Lot to Park! We still have to present to Borough Council at their December meeting to receive final approval but things are well on there way. We can’t actively fundraise until then but we have a good list of grants that we are very interested in pursuing. There are a few that should be our main focus so at our next meeting we will be discussing what needs to be done to work on these. Our goal is to have some of these ready by the Borough Council Meeting so that when we are (hopefully) approved, we can submit some of the grant applications the very next day (or within a week) and get this process started.
We have all been working very hard to get more people involved in this project so please know that each one of you is invited to drop in to any of the meetings and to bring friends or neighbors who just want to work on a great grassroots project in Carlisle (even if you don’t live close to the park itself). This project really is happening! We have starting funds and an excellent group of people that are working hard. Please consider joining in too! All are welcome!
