Carlisle Holiday Kickoff: Saturday Nov. 24th 2012 9am-7pm

Please, Please, Please shop local this holiday season! See below for all of the great things going on in Carlisle on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  This day has come to be known across the country as Small Business Saturday (a polar opposite to the stores people tend to shop at on Black Friday) so show you care about the businesses in our own backyard and spend your money there instead of all of the big box stores.

Santa Comes to Town
Saturday, November 24

New holiday event to welcome visitors to downtown Carlisle. 

Carlisle will welcome the holiday season, on Saturday, November 24, as area businesses are kicking of a new holiday event titled Santa Comes to Town. This holiday celebration, will give attendees the opportunity to visit many of the downtown restaurants, stores, businesses and churches that make the downtown great and to see all of the wonderful things Carlisle has to offer, especially during the holidays.

Organized by the Downtown Carlisle Association / LoveCarlisle.com, FREE activities have been planned from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day and include Doughnuts with Santa, sponsored by Entenmann’s, at the Comfort Suites from 9 to 11 a.m.; Pictures with Santa, sponsored by Revelation Photography, at the Old Courthouse from 12 Noon to 4 p.m.; Storytelling with Mrs. Claus, at the Whistlestop Bookshop, from 1 to 2 p.m.; Carriage Rides available from 4 to 6 p.m.; and a Tree Lighting Ceremony, also at the Old Courthouse at 5 p.m. While downtown, we encourage guests to visit many of the area businesses, as many are participating in a storefront decorating contest which is sure to feature many beautiful holiday scenes.

Holiday celebrations on The Block include ‘Hot Shots’ spiced & spiked hot beverage shots partnered with small food sampling shots. Once completed, turn in to any of the shops by 4:30 p.m. to be included in our Shopping Shots Drawing, where we’ll be drawing 10 passports & giving away 10 gift certificates.

  • Deb Tritt Kreiger, Artist will be at the Artists Market painting her 2012 limited edition Christmas ornaments. This year it is the American Goldfinch. These are signed and dated by the artist. Also, Judy Adams, Author will be having a book signing for her book The Existence Game. We are excited that she has chosen us for her first book signing of her first book. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic shots will be served. Photo shots with our Mrs. Santa will be available. Light refreshments will also be served.

Carlisle Arts Learning Center (CALC), 19 N. Hanover St., Downtown Carlisle

Will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the feature exhibit will be “Our Favorite Things”, a boutique of unique local fine art and craft including original paintings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, ornaments and prints for affordable, one-of-a-kind gifts. CALC supports the BUY LOCAL movement year round by offering an outlet to artists and craftspeople to market their works. Refreshments will be available and CALC artist Catherine Stone will demonstrate simple needle-felting at Noon.

Carlisle Bakery, 35 S. Hanover St., Downtown Carlisle

Will host a toy drive for kids with cancer. Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation assists children under age 18 and their families who are facing the hardships of a cancer diagnosis. The Foundation focuses on improving the mental, social and emotional well-being of these families while helping to minimize the devastation that cancer can cause. Any child who wishes to bring an unwrapped toy (board games, toys, crayons, coloring books, markers, video games, puzzles, teddy bears, craft kits… all sorts of things that make children smile and laugh) to be donated to this foundation will receive a FREE Christmas Cookie from the Carlisle Bakery, as well as, be entered into a drawing to win a Christmas Cake and Christmas Pie that can be redeemed at the Carlisle Bakery any time during the month of December.

Book Signing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Author Randy Watts

Newest book, The Clay Brick and Sand Industries in the Mountain Creek Valley of Cumberland County 1890 – 20012. Writer Randy Watts provides a detailed overview of the mineral industries that developed with the ending of the iron industry at Pine Grove Furnace. Light refreshments will be served. Starting now and until November 24 The Yarn Garden will be collecting thermal hats, blankets, gloves, etc. to be sent to one of their distributors that was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy on Long Island, NY. This distributor will then send the items to local yarn shops, for people in the areas hardest hit by the storm. You don’t need to be a knitter to participate; all donations will gladly be accepted.
