From the Farmer’s on the Square weekly email:
Yes, the forecast for Wednesday predicts yet another rainy afternoon. But how about taking a glass h approach and consider making the Farmers on the Square market a bright spot in an otherwise gloomily gray week of wet weather? To sweeten the prospect of braving the elements, I’m pleased to report that at least two farmers have said they are almost positive they will be bringing their very first local strawberries to the square on May 18th between 3 and 7 PM!
And the berries will be in addition to all of the other spring veggies, pastured meats and poultry, local cheeses and dairy products, baked goods, artisan breads and tongue tickling hot sauces the farmers brought to market last week. (If you missed our wonderfully successful season opener, you can check out some photos of the happenings on our Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/#!/FarmersontheSquare )
We’ve also got a lineup of market enhancing activities on tap for all ages and interests. There will a chef’s demonstration on how to prepare three types of kale three very different ways between 3 and 4, and again between 6 and 6:45. Between the hours of 4 and 6 PM, we’ll have returning talents Posie the Party Fairy painting faces, massage therapist Dave Bender working out shoulder kinks, and guitarist Michael Dempsey entertaining all comers.
Many folks who attended opening day last Wednesday may have noticed Pipe Dreams Fromage, a goat cheese operation headed by Brad Parker operating in the stall next to the Friends of the Farmers table. Pipe Dreams intends to be at market every other week for the entire season, so Brad will not be with us this week but will be returning on the 25th. On that day, you can look forward to seeing him, many more strawberries, and Helena Twigg of Helena’s Chocolate bar and Creperie, who will demonstrate how to make chocolate and local strawberry crepes for us all to taste.
Hope to see you on the square!
